In the spirit of “better late than never,” here is what we have been busy with in September 2024.
We upgraded our build pipeline (for buildpacks) to use Ubuntu Jammy as a base. For those who can’t keep up with the funny names Linux distributions hand out these days and why this is relevant: Jammy is the current Long Term Support (LTS) version of Ubuntu, which we use to turn your application code into a container.
Given Jammy’s long-term status, we’ll see updates to it until April 2034 — but not to worry, we’ll update to the next long before that.
In other news, we extended our documentation with examples for Angular, Astro, Nuxt, and React — deploy all the JavaScripts and added support for new languages (Kotlin, Elixir) too. Please read our previous announcement for all the details and links!
Otherwise… 🥁🥁🥁
Runway Multiplayer aka “App sharing” and collaboration was released.
App sharing allows you to share an application with someone else — they could be a friend or colleague working with you, e.g., update your app’s configuration, deploy new releases, or “just” lurking (“viewer”). The good thing is, sharing comes at no extra cost to you or the person you share with — the price is always the price of the app itself (starting at “free”), with no extra hidden costs or fees with Runway.
Try it out:
$ runway app share ls
The owner
role grants you complete control over an application. The original owner (or creator) remains responsible for billing, but beyond that, you have full permissions—including the ability to delete the application.
The developer
role provides comprehensive permissions, allowing you to review, update, and delete the app’s configuration, as well as manage deployments. However, the ability to remove the application is restricted.
The viewer
role allows you to observe the app in a read-only capacity, providing insight without the ability to make changes.
This release makes multiplayer available — with additional features (access to logs, metrics) coming in the next weeks. We hope you like it and are looking forward to your feedback!
Over the past weeks, we’ve been working on various improvements for Runway:
We’re excited about these developments and can’t wait to share more with you in the future—stay tuned! And follow us on Mastodon to grab a coupon!
