Hello friends!

Time flies and February is already upon us, so here’s what we were working on in January, 2025! Learn more about: Runway Multiplayer, Deno support and updates to the DBaaS!

Features

Multiplayer

Runway Multiplayer now supports app stats! Collaborators on your application can access real-time graphs in both the web UI and CLI, making it easier to track performance and impact as a team. Build together, analyze together!

Deno

We’ve just released our first custom buildpack—and it works! (Yes, on the first try!) This buildpack brings Deno support to Runway, offering an alternative to the usual Node.js runtime for JavaScript apps. If you prefer TypeScript over JavaScript and love being on the cutting edge of development, this one’s for you!

Details, you ask?

DBaaS Update

The Runway CLI now supports commands to create, list, and delete services—starting with PostgreSQL (versions 16 and 17). The associated docs for runway service have all the details, so give it a try. :) We’d love to hear how you’re using it!

One of our favorite use cases is preview apps—built from pull requests (or merge requests). If you’re using Runway for that too, then runway service dsn will be especially useful. It automates application configuration by injecting service connection details, eliminating the need for manual setup.

Runway Services: Not GA Yet, But Ready to Use!

While we haven’t officially marked Runway services as GA, they’re already proving to be stable and reliable. You can start using them for free during this phase and help shape their future with your feedback. Whether you need managed databases or other services, now is the perfect time to explore what’s possible!

Stack updates

We rolled out a series of updates across the Runway stack, including improvements to all buildpacks. These updates bring numerous small enhancements, bug fixes, and performance tweaks – many of which have already proven to be incredibly useful. We hope you find them just as valuable! 🤝
