November/December was a busy time at Runway — mostly for cleanups and also some well-earned (personal!) downtime after another turbulent 2020 2024. As a result, this update is a bit light on user-facing features. However, we made significant progress behind the scenes by improving our internal dashboards, refining our monitoring and alerting systems, and test-driving new infrastructure features from Kubernetes v1.31.x and beyond.
After our botched infrastructure update in Novemeber, we dedicated time to debugging the defunct cluster issues that led to downtime. As a result, we standardized the CNI across all clusters and believe we pinpointed the issue: an incompatibility between kube-proxy
and iptables
(or rather, nftables
). While it’s reassuring to understand a problem, it doesn’t quite make up for the time and stress spent resolving it.
Here’s what we tackled last month:
go generate
and enhancements for Buildpacks. We hope you also managed to take some time off and that 2025 is off to a great start. Here’s to a productive year ahead! 🚀
